The Eco Dog Hammock

E-mail Print

The Jamboree Dog Bed, from Australian designer Ilya Fridman, is an innovative project utilizing old rubber flip-flop sandals and upcycling them into comfortable and useful hammock bed for dogs.

The idea behind the Jamboree Dog Bed is to collect stray dog hair by harnessing the attraction power of static electricity. Removing loose hair from dogs’ coats keeps pets more comfortable, eases house cleaning and lowers allergic reactions.

The rubber flip-flops are interwoven to create a brickwork hammock that creates a static charge when the dog is lying/moving on it. This static charge attracts loose fur onto the rubber which can then be easily disassembled and cleaned.

Dogs have a comfortable bed that also helps keep their coats free of loose itchy hair.

“Through this design I tried to address the misconception that dogs are unable to see colour. They can in fact see colours just not as vividly as humans,” explains Fridman. “This inspired me to make the colours of the design more vivid, the flip-flops did the rest.”

The Jamboree Dog Bed is part of the ReDesign Initiative.
