Puppy Tweets by Mattel.

In a bid to get companion animals involved in social media and stay better connected to their owners, American toy giant Mattel recently unveiled a Puppy Tweets product – a plastic collar tag with sound and motion sensors that connects via wireless technology to your computer.

Pet owners can create a Twitter account and stay updated, in 140 characters or less, with their pets movements throughout the day and night.

"Puppy Tweets capitalizes on two popular trends - the use of social media and real time communication, as well as peoples' extreme love for their dogs," explained Susan Russo, Mattel's director of marketing, to CNN News.

The Puppy Tweets system generates a series of cutesy prerecorded tweets based on the animal’s activities including “Somedays it feels like my paw is permanently on the snooze button!” and “Somedays you just gotta get your bark on.”

However, not all animals may like exposure to wireless technology. Some animals, like humans, could suffer from electromagnetic sensitivities that may be made worse by wearing a wireless transmitter around their neck.

Puppy Tweets is expected to retail for US$29.99.
