There is so much divisiveness about animals. Do they have emotions or are they simply meat producing creatures? Do they feel pain? Can they reason? Are they our ‘babies’ or just objects? In some cultures certain animals are exalted as sacred or as dearly loved members of the family. In other cultures, animals experience a veritable holocaust of suffering and torture.
But what do the animals think? And what part must animals play in healing the planet? We caught up with author and animal communicator, Madeleine Walker, to find out some animal insights and to talk about her new book – An Exchange of Love.
What does ‘animal communicator’ mean?
I feel it’s the re-opening up of the parts of our brains that we used in our so-called more ‘primitive’ times. Ancient tribes around the world continue to communicate with all living things on a telepathic level, connecting with the life force energy that everything possesses. The animals have so much to teach us about remembering our connection to the earth and how to work with it, instead of against it.
Please tell us a bit about the work you do with animals.
I visit clients at their homes or farms/livery yards to see individual animals. I also run clinics for several clients to bring their animals to a designated venue in order to telepathically connect with them and intuit emotional and physical issues. I also perform distant readings for clients internationally.
What does your work entail?
Mainly hands on work with individual animals, but I also work as a therapist with people so very often, having heard what the animal has to say about their human care-givers, I often suggest a follow on session with the owners with interesting results. The animals constantly amaze us with their insight into our issues and life challenges.
On a physical level, I work to balance the animal’s chakra systems both physical and higher and give healing to areas which I am shown are out of balance. I use a dowsing crystal pendulum to intuit these areas. I also work with what I call Light Crystals that are pure energy, and I place them in animals, people and environments to facilitate healing and possible past life injury release.
Please describe how you communicate with animals?
I feel it is a heart to heart connection, so I imagine sending a thread of love from my heart to the animal’s heart, sending unconditional love and respect. This hopefully allows the animal to trust me enough to share its problems and traumas.
Do you hear their voices/get their thoughts?
Sometimes I hear voices or I get pictures –like a video clip or I get physical sensations, like a pain that the animal is trying to tell me they are experiencing. For example I may get a toothache if a horse has dental problems. Sometimes they give me a taste if they’re trying to tell me about their favourite foods. When I commence a reading I ask for a word or emotion that might underpin the whole reading. This may even be from an animal in spirit who wishes to communicate with its grieving owners.
Are some animals more difficult to communicate with?
As with people, not all animals want to communicate or they are more difficult to access, sometimes it takes quite a long time for an animal to feel safe enough to open up to me; I have to reassure them that I’m there to help. I have to commit to helping resolve whatever ‘can of worms’ is opened. But generally you can communicate with any species from a fly, guinea pig or a humpback whale.
Please explain about the animal/human connection.
I believe that we travel in soul groups, playing out different roles in different lifetimes to work through and resolve relationships and traumas from different life times. I have much evidence that our animals also participate in those lifetimes and often return to continue loving relationships with us. I recently had a horse who felt it was responsible for its current owner’s death in a previous life together and it had returned to heal that trauma and ensure the safety of her owner in this lifetime. A role the horse took very seriously. In the past life, the owner broke her back when the horse fell on her and they both perished. The horse ‘told’ me about current back pain that the owner was experiencing and showed me exactly where the pain was. When I worked to remove the past life trauma, the pain disappeared and the horse actually nuzzled the site to check that healing had taken place – quite amazing.
Do humans/animals share past lives?
I feel that our animals are so much more than we think they are –they are wonderful sentient beings that have deeper links into our being than many of us realise. They can describe to me their past life connections, names and type (not always the same species) with their current owners. They can show me the particular incarnation that their current owner experienced. Many physical and emotional issues can be linked to past life trauma that are still impacting on current life experiences which can be very limiting and stressful.
I feel that some people like to think of humans as a superior species and that we are the only intelligent beings able to express emotions.
Why is animal/human communication sometimes difficult to accept?
I feel that some people like to think of humans as a superior species and that we are the only intelligent beings able to express emotions. I think my findings can be quite threatening to some.
With so much animal suffering in the world, what do the animals think humans?
I have been told by the animals – especially the whales - who would have every reason to hate humans, that they look on us as rather wayward teenagers who need re-educating and reminding of the sacredness of the planet and its occupants.
They have much to teach us about forgiveness and compassion. When I worked as a veterinary nurse with my veterinarian husband, I was astounded at the willingness of rescue dogs that were in appalling conditions of cruelty, to still give love. They would still try and wag their tails and lick in affection. How many humans would be so willing? Obviously there are cases that are so traumatized, that they are too unpredictable to re-home and euthanizing is the only option. This is incredibly sad. I feel there are no bad animals just bad owners and if the animals display challenging behaviour it is only to alert us of the problems.
Tell us a bit about your new book.
I was compelled to write this book to awaken people to the concept of how much our animals know and care about us. So many animals are being mistreated, misunderstood, abandoned or destroyed. If people only realised the extent of the animals understanding on such deep levels, I’m sure they would think again and to all the animal lovers, I wanted them to realise just how amazing our animal companions are.
Are animals an important part of healing our environmental woes?
I have had some wonderful words of wisdom from Humpback whales, giving me healing meditations for the planet. I also believe that animals are very sensitive to ley lines and fragmented energy lines around the planet.
I had a wonderful encounter with a huge manta ray who described its healing work monitoring the oceanic grid lines which was pretty mind blowing for me. The horses have told me that they carry the war consciousness of man. I understand this to be a collective memory of the trauma of battle throughout millennia that we have ridden our faithful steeds into. I have been shown many horrific past life traumas that horses have experienced and when I asked why I was being shown this, I was told by the horses that they wanted to help us live in peace in order to live harmoniously with our fellow man and also prevent further damage and devastation to the planet. I am going to work with Indian elephants very soon and I believe they will have similar messages regarding their use by man in war.
Why do you think so many environmentalists neglect animals in their discourse?
I feel that perhaps like many others, they do not realize the deep significance of the animal’s presence on our planet. Hence the need for me to spread the animal’s messages.
What are your thoughts on being vegetarian?
Personally I am vegetarian, which has progressed from not eating red meat, to a completely meat free diet. I do not condemn anyone eating meat. I think it’s more important to focus on the way the animals are reared and slaughtered. I feel if animals have been well kept and are slaughtered in the most stress free way possible, then I feel perhaps people can continue to eat meat with discernment.
But of course it’s a difficult subject for me, knowing how animals feel. There was once a sacred interaction between man and beast in past times where the spirit of the animal was honoured. It’s a far cry from present day slaughterhouses and transport lorries loaded with terrified animals etc.
How can we communicate better with animals?
Just spend quiet time with your animals, allowing yourself to be open to the possibility that we can all communicate with our animal friends. We just have to open our hearts and minds and listen! I also run courses internationally on animal communication and healing, it’s a lot of fun learning or ‘remembering’ with others and working with different species of animals and being amazed at our latent abilities.
