As meat and egg production is becoming more industrialized daily, the cruelty is also unfortunately increasing. The industrial livestock ‘farming’ takes place behind locked doors, high fences and under tight security, but from time-to-time animal activists are able to infiltrate (or bribe workers) to record instances of cruelty at these industrial farms/slaughter houses.
Mark Middleton from Animal Visuals has created an interactive farm map that tracks the undercover investigations of factory farms, while allowing quick access to the videos from these infiltrations.
“I think that this project demonstrates the pattern of animal abuse in animal agriculture and that the incidents are not isolated,” explains Middleton. “I created it to draw attention to the recent "Ag Gag" anti-photography bills pending in Iowa and New York.” The Ag Gag anti-photography bills are proposed legislations deeming it a crime to record photos or videotape inside privately owned farms – regardless of if there is abuse-taking place.
“Viewed individually, the actions shown might be dismissed as isolated incidents. Taken together, however, they reveal a pattern of disregard for animal welfare and routine cruelty-to-animals throughout animal agriculture,” explains Middleton.
