Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages

E-mail Print

In a homage to Lady Godiva, Kristen Johnston recently bared all in a PETA campaign against horse-drawn carriages in New York City. Posing nude on top of a prop horse, Johnston appears beside the tagline "Don't Get Taken for a Ride. Horse-Drawn Carriages Are Cruel".

Kristen is reported to have been inspired to get involved with PETA's campaign after attending a New York screening of the movie Blinders. "Well, my friend Jackie saw the movie Blinders and was really affected by it. She's one of my best friends, and she asked me to come to the New York premiere. And I went, and I was blown away by the story and how these horses live..."

PETA and other animal right’s groups report that there is nothing romantic about forcing horses to pull oversized loads through heavy traffic in city centers. Often, the animals suffer from respiratory ailments because they breathe in exhaust fumes and develop debilitating leg problems from walking on hard surfaces. PETA reports that in some cases, horses have even dropped dead from heatstroke after working in scorching summer heat and humidity.
