Have you ever wondered what a Blue Whale looks like up close? A life size interactive rendition of the largest mammal on the planet is now online to raise awareness about the effects hunting, overfishing and climate change are having on these magnificent creatures.
The Whale and Dolphin Conversation Society online Blue Whale project encourages people to foster an interest in protecting whales from commercial hunting.
“The Blue Whale, the largest mammal ever to appear on the planet, is symbolic for its dramatic decrease over the past centuries due to human activities. From an estimate of around 265,000 blue whales in the Antarctic, just around 1% - 2280 animals – have survived after decades of being hunted close to extinction. And while some countries, such as Japan, continue hunting, these large mammals face many other threats including pollution, noise or being bycaught in fishing gear,” explains the Whale and Dolphin Conversation Society of the life size interactive Blue Whale.
