Novartis Attacks Put Animal Experiments in Headlines

E-mail Print

Escalating attacks from animal rights activists against Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis’ CEO Dr. Daniel Vassella are drawing attention to animal experiments. Death threats, desecrating family graves, graffiti on churches, and even burning down homes is part of the campaign to intimidate the CEO to stop working with Huntingdon Life Sciences.

The increasingly violent acts are believed to be directly related to Novartis’ connection with the British animal testing facility Huntingdon Life Sciences. The UK-based animal testing facility performs experiments on an estimated 75,000 animals each year including primates, dogs, pigs, rabbits and rats.

“These people are trying to stand in the way of medical progress,” explained CEO Dr. Daniel Vassella in an interview with CNBC.

Authorities are investigating the attacks.

Animal testing has nothing to do with "medical progress". It is an archaic system that more often than not hinders real medical progress.

I always wonder what sort of person could be involved with such acts of cruelty. Who works in these places? What kind of people are they to do this to living creatures?
