Although dolphins and whales had a brief reprieve from the annual dolphin hunt and slaughter in Taiji, Japan, the hunt is back on. Yesterday, in the early part of the morning, Japanese fishermen rounded-up an estimated 50 pilot whales and 100 bottlenose dolphins.
Instead of the mass scale slaughter that would normally take place, the dolphins were herded to the shoreline and captured for sale to aquariums around the world. The unwanted dolphins were set free according to the Associated Press. However, the 50 pilot whales were killed.
The documentary The Cove is responsible for the increased media attention on the annual dolphin and whale slaughter in Taiji, Japan. Find out how you can help stop the annual hunt in Taiji, Japan: http://www.takepart.com/thecove/
