Japanese Attack Ady Gil

E-mail Print

Whale Wars Season Three.

A Japanese whaling ship has severely damaged the US$1.5millon Ady Gil, an ultra-fast, biodiesel-powered catamaran that Paul Watson and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society were planning on using as a secret weapon to stop the Japanese whaling fleet this year in the Antarctic.

The Ady Gil, formally known as Earthrace.

A statement on the Sea Shepherd website reported that the Japanese vessel the Shonan Maru No. 2 "…deliberately rammed in an unprovoked attack…" the Ady Gil, shearing off eight feet of the bow of the vessel. The boat was sinking when the six crew members, five from New Zealand and one from the Netherlands, were rescued near Commonwealth Bay in the Southern Ocean. None of the Andy Gil crewmembers were seriously injured, but the Ady Gil is out of commission.

The once formidable wave-piercing Ady Gil, a 100% biodiesel and carbon neutral superboat, able to travel at 40 knots (46mph, 74kph), was painted black and toughened up with Kevlar for its anti-whaling missions with the Sea Shepherd.

Ady Gil’s (formally called the Earthrace) New Zealand owner/skipper, Pete Bethune, told The Brisbane Times that he originally decided to become involved in anti-whaling efforts because "…this is happening in my backyard and it really pisses me off. I'm going to make a stand."

I watch this Video and noticed that the Japan's did not run into the sea shepard in fact if you look behind the boat of the sea shepard you can see that they floored it and run into the Japan's Vessel they can not turn to run into the sea shepard the sea shepard had what was coming to them for getting that close to any vessel on the high seas anywhere

Well, I watch this video and see the Japanese ship hit the Ady Gill. I guess everyone sees things differently.

If you take a look at this YouTube video there is no doubt that the Japanese boat changed direction to hit the Ady Gil or at least scare them.

Wonder if it was insured?

If the black PIRATE boat can do 40 knots, it can get out of the way. I'm glad no-one was hurt but if somone would have died it would have been due to stupidity

Attacked? LOL.
How can a fast, light vessle be hit by a big, slow one? By being in front of it deliberately, perhaps.
And how come activists get furious over a few hundred whales being killed, while say 70000 moose are hunted each year in Sweden alone? Maybe anti-whaling is sexier than anti-hunting on land? Do you think the animals on land suffer less when they are wounded but not killed? And bullfighting... Best not to mention. Fundraising for pirates is easier than most fundraising too, isn't it? My opinion...

You people that think this is a joke are stupid.

Ghostrider you must be blind, the skipper of the Ady Gil was not at the helm. Check the video again.
You can clearly see the Japanese ship turn into the Ady Gil. Thats against the law and if I were their I would sink the Japanese ship.

The Ady Gil was out of gas and had been sititng in the same spot for a long time, The Shonan Maru No. 2 saw it and begin hitting them with the water cannons then turned and hit them They knew what they were doing and wated to cause damage to the Ady Gil. The Ady gil was waiting for the Sea Shephard to come to them so they could refuel. .

If u have any thought that it wasnt the Japanese intend to destroy the boat watch the episode of whale wars that it happened on, u can clearly see the Japanese shoot the crew(who is sitting on deck in plain sight) with there water cannons after the smash the boat to piece. If u really think thats not evil intend u truely r foolish. Besides the sea shephards NEVER tried to hit a boat with a violent attack, stink bombs and prop faulers do almost kill ppl of cost over 1 million dollars in damage.
