The Walt Disney Company’s new eco-film label – Disneynature Films - will launch its first film Earth, for Earth Day on April 22, 2009. The family-friendly 90-minute documentary film follows the life of three animal families as they move around the world.
The stars of the film are families of polar bears, humpback whales and elephants. The film took an estimated 2,000 days to shoot in more than 200 locations around the globe.
The movie is a joint project between Disney and the successful BBC TV series Planet Earth. Alastair Fothergill, director of the BBC TV series is also co-director, along with Mark Linfield, of the Disney Earth film. “The film has a very strong environmental message,” explains Linfield.
“Most of us live in cities and it is quite hard for someone to understand that by turning on an electricity switch they are actually affecting wilderness like this,” explains Fothergill. “If we make changes together we have great power.”
Disney’s Earth opens in theatres on April 22, 2009.
