American artist Amy Mahnick paints images of what she describes as ‘fairy tale Ugly Duckling stories’. The gifted artist takes discarded plastic containers and packaging and turns them into elegant sculptures she then paints as stunning still-life images.
Mahnick's whimsical plastic figure paintings gently engage the viewer to contemplate the origin of the materials and participate in a world where discarded plastic has both meaning and history.

“I give meaning, purpose, and beauty to something that people would traditionally rather not see,” explains the artist. “I want to bring these figures to life, so I bathe them in light, surround them with vibrant color, and paint them with close attention and empathy.”
