Repurposed Tampon Chandelier

Bride by Joana Vasconcelos.

14,000 unused repurposed tampons are spun together with wire and thread to form a stunning chandelier entitled Bride. The 5m (16’ 5”) tall chandelier is part of an exhibit by Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos on display at the Belem Cultural Center in Lisbon until May 18, 2010.

I don't "get it" How is taking something "unused" and repurposed green or eco friendly in any way? and I don't think I am cool enough to be able to push the actual use of tampons out of my mind, even if these are white
