An enormous white solar origami crane, the Ascension, is the centerpiece at the annual Coachella Music Festival continuing until April 18, 2010 in California.

The stunning art installation measures over 45ft (13.7m) in height with a wingspan of 150ft (45.7m). The Ascension weighs an estimated 35,000lbs (15,880kgs). It is constructed of fabric stretched over wire-tensioned aluminium frames. At night, the sculpture turns into a multi-coloured LED art installation powered by solar energy harvested during the day.

The Ascension crane sculpture, created by Los Angeles based Crimson Collective, was modeled after the Japanese custom of folding paper into one thousand crane shapes with good intention in exchange for a wish.
