With all eyes turned to the Gulf of Mexico watching the worst environmental disaster in US history unfolding, American artist David Macaluso continues to use his stunning artwork to raise awareness about our global dependence on oil.

In a new exhibit at the City of Brea Gallery in California entitled Repurpose, Reuse, Recycle, the evocative artist explores via his recycled oil paintings what our oil consumption means for the planet and our humanity.

“I employ used motor oil as both a metaphor for this age in world history, and as a means of recycling the substance into art,” explains Macaluso. “The tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico right now emphasizes some malignant consequences to our (global) addiction of oil.”

The Repurpose, Reuse, Recycle exhibit continues at the City of Brea Gallery through July 9, 2010.
