Recycled Skateboard Art

Artwork by Haroshi.

Unwanted and discarded skateboard decks find new life at the hands of Japanese sculptor Haroshi. The talented artist creates amazing three-dimensional art pieces from the old skateboards. The recycled skateboard art is made by stacking together many layers of broken skate decks, the decks are then cut, shaven, and polished into stunning artwork.

The artist’s sentimental attachment to the unusable skate decks helped him to find a way to create new life from the unwanted materials.

“Skate decks eventually see its life shortened by snapping, cracking and/or wearing out. Purchasing new decks is a never ending cycle and this was evident by the tower of old decks that were reaching to the ceiling of my room,” explains the artist of his work. “As a skater, I want to take responsibility of reusing skateboards when they were no longer useable. Also, as an artist I want to explore the possibilities of what can be done with skateboards.”
