Mouldy slippers, dirty laundry and anti-itch cream are just a few of the items that go into the 3D assemblage collages created by American celebrity portrait extraordinaire Jason Mecier. His enormous body of work includes portraits of Lady GaGa, P!nk, Chris Rock and Donald Trump.
Mecier’s unusual art form captures the unique public persona of each celebrity and the artist often uses materials sourced directly from the celebrities. A self-described junk and trinket collector, the artist contacts the celebrities who usually end up collaborating on the portraits. Model Barbi Benton and comedian Phyllis Diller have all sent boxes of items for their portraits.
Some of his more unusual portraits have included Kevin Bacon immortalized in bacon, Snoop Dogg made from marijuana and a junk food Rosie O’Donnell.
