Will birds and wildlife return to urban areas if they have their very own skyscrapers to live in? Garnett Netherwood Architects thinks they will.
Leeds based Garnett Netherwood Architects recently won the first Holbeck Urban Village Wildlife Competition with their ambitious “Urban Takeback” design comprised of a green tower structure created to cater to the wildlife of Holbeck Urban Village.
The competition originated as a response to the decline in wildlife and songbirds in the Leeds area. The winning design is a skyscraper for wildlife constructed from the recycled materials of demolished buildings.
Neil Oxlee, 26, of Garnett Netherwood explained, “The concept for our design was to ‘take back’ and recycle the urban fabric to create structures in which wildlife can blossom.”
