The Eco-Pod, from Höweler + Yoon Architecture and Squared Design Lab, is an innovative design solution to help stimulate the economy and ecology of downtown Boston at the stalled Filene’s redevelopment site.
The Eco-Pod houses a vertical algae bioreactor to create renewable energy for the city. The visually stunning building is covered with multiple pods that serve as bio-fuel sources and as micro-incubators for research and development programs. An on-site robotic armature (powered by the algae bio-fuel) is designed to move the pods to maximize algae growth conditions and to accommodate evolving spatial design.
Vertical public parks and botanical gardens housing unique plant species will form a network of greenery in the downtown Boston location.
