With mountains as inspiration, Beijing based MAD Architects have created an innovative design for the Taichung Convention Center in Taiwan. The stunning design fuses architecture and nature to create an urban building based on Eastern naturalistic philosophies.
“This project inherits Chinese architecture's long-standing attitude towards holistic integration and order of space. It employs the Eastern philosophy of a harmonized synthesis between human and nature,” explain the architects of the design.
The crater-shaped formations and rotundas are covered with a pleated skin system that provides airflow to the building while also providing solar energy. The individual mountains are connected with open courtyards to create a continuum of natural spaces and outdoor gardens.
