“My hope with this design is to…demonstrate how even the most luxurious places on earth can, and should, be built in an earth friendly way,” explains American designer Michael Jantzen of his North Slope Ski Hotel design.

The conceptual design is for an eco-friendly ninety-five-room luxury ski hotel powered primarily by wind and sun energy. Eight large vertical axis wind turbines are mounted on the top of the hotel, with a large array of flexible photovoltaic cells covering the lower south facing curved portion of the structure. The wind turbines and solar cells will meet most of the North Slope Ski Hotel’s electrical needs.

Built from sustainable building products, the North Slope Ski Hotel is a showpiece for green building with the design also incorporating passive solar design and rainwater collection for use in the hotel. Guests will also have the opportunity to help power the hotel via kinetic energy harvested from the hotel gym’s electrical generating exercise equipment.
