Inspired by the Physalia physalis jellyfish, which is actually a colony of four distinct but symbiotic organisms, Vincent Callebaut Architects has created a whale-shaped floating garden river boat concept that is designed to drift through European rivers while it purifies and reduces water pollution via an advanced bio-filtration system.

The Physalia is a self-sufficient, alternative energy eco-system powered by solar cells on the green garden roof while hydro-turbines harvest power from the water displaced when the Physalia is in motion.

The river water is pumped through four distinct garden systems – named after the four elements – Earth, Wind, Fire and Water, and treated with ultraviolet rays to purify pollutants.
