At the present time, relief efforts are focused on assisting the impoverished people of Haiti after the devastation of the recent January 12th 7.0 earthquake and the numerous powerful destructive aftershocks. Loss of life is estimated at anywhere from 30,000 to 100,000 people, but it is still too early to obtain accurate figures.

To make a donation to help the Haitian people with immediate relief effort, consider giving to one of the following organizations:

Yele Haiti: http://www.yele.org/
Red Cross: http://www.redcross.org/
Doctors Without Borders: http://doctorswithoutborders.org/
Médecins Sans Frontières: http://www.msf.ca/
UNICEF Canada: http://www.unicef.ca/

However, it is not too early to think about how Haiti will be rebuilt after the earthquake and consider making a donation to help with the Haiti rebuilding efforts. American-based Architecture for Humanity is organizing a sustainable Earthquake Reconstruction Plan for Haiti:

“We primarily work in the reconstruction phase of post disaster situations and will be focused on transitional and permanent housing and community structures. We will partner with Yele Haiti, Appropriate Infrastructure Development Group (AIDG) and others by supplying them pro bono construction and design professionals, setting up community housing resource centers and support in the design and building of earthquake resistant structures.
