Asia-based Sparch Architects have created a stunning 2010 World Expo design for Shanghai’s International Cruise Terminal located in the city’s North Bund area.

Although there is not much environmentally friendly about cruise ships, the architects’ innovative plan pairs sustainability with a breath-taking Terminal centrepiece dubbed Shanghai Chandelier – an enormous glass-clad building overlooking the waterfront and the green corridor located along the Huangpu River.

To keep the vast development cool, ARUP Engineers will utilize heat exchangers and the river water to create a highly efficient Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system. Energy to power the buildings is supplied via photovoltaic membranes on the roofs.

Shanghai’s International Cruise Terminal is designed to accommodate three large cruise ships at any one time and an estimated 1.5 million passengers per year.
