A gorgeous, 100-room, alternative energy hotel that spans the Colorado River in the form of a large bridge is the latest design concept from American artist Michael Jantzen.

“The ideal location for this hotel is where the river gorge is relatively narrow at the top,” explains the artist. “Guests would be able to use the hotel as a bridge since they could walk over the top of the structure on steps that are built into the roof.” Hotel guests can also ride one of two capsules from the interior of the hotel down to the river gorge.
In addition to the 100 luxurious eco-rooms, the Colorado River Bridge Hotel will feature a large organic food restaurant, bar, gym, health spa, indoor pool, and retail shops. The gymnasium offers exercise equipment that generates electrical power for the hotel.

The alternative energy hotel will use a variety of renewable energy sources including a water-activated marine turbine, wind turbines situated on the top of the hotel and a bank of solar panels on the roof.
Natural ventilation and lighting is utilized throughout the hotel as well as passive solar heating and cooling techniques. Rainwater is captured from the roof and from the stairway that runs over the top of the structure, to be stored in underground containers for use in and around the hotel.

“The purpose of this design proposal is to suggest ways in which large structures can still be built in the landscape in an eco-friendly and sustainable way,” explains Jantzen.
