The Anara Tower

Inspired by the Minaret, The Anara Tower may one day have the distinction of being the world’s tallest LEED certified building. The world's tallest building is another Dubai mega project called the Burj Dubai. Tameer recently unveiled the Atkins' designed 600metre tower (470,000 sq m total built up area) scheduled to be built in Dubai, Saudi Arabia on the famous Sheik Zayed Road.

Spanning almost five million square feet, the 100 storey-plus mixed-use project includes 1, 2 and 3 bedroom luxury apartments and palatial penthouses with a ‘sky garden’ incorporated every 27 floors. Building plans also include a penthouse with a private elevator and a private pool. The tower will also have art galleries, restaurants, retail outlets, a children’s swimming pool and sports facilities.

Aside from all the opulence you would expect from the Middle East, the design of Anara Tower will attempt to address environmental challenges by maximizing water and energy efficiency; and potentially including renewable sources of energy, in addition to conforming to the internationally recognized LEED certification requirements. The tower is expected to comply with Silver LEED Certification standards.

It is difficult to think of a project of this scale and opulence as being even remotely green. There is the use of enormous quantities of building materials, resources to construct the tower and the difficultly of supplying adequate alternative energy to the 100 apartments and all the other luxuries housed within the building.

Building is expected to start in late 2009.
