To bring some pizzazz to a tired part of Germany, artist Lars Behrendt has designed the colorful Lotto-Turm tower made from 55 recycled shipping containers. The concept project, inspired in part by the lottery, is designed for the Oesterreichische Platz in Stuttgart, Germany.
The Österreichischer Platz is situated at the edge of Stuttgart’s city center, surrounded by highways and currently used as a parking spot. Behrendt plans to interrupt the tedium of the traffic with his whimsical building.
Behrendt explains his project goal as temporary. “The containers allow a financially interesting and short-term realization of the project. For a timeframe of five to ten years a temporary tower could revaluate the district and create an attractive magnet where different, lively and diverse forms of use will have a home for a time."
The Lotto-Turm will be divided into two parts. The courtyard will be isolated from traffic and noise. The high-rise tower can be scaled by stairs or a path. There will be many differently designed zones, terraces of different sizes, niches and stairways including a love-zone, a rooftop swimming pool and public gardens.
