The eco housing and design movement too often focuses on green housing solutions for the middle-class or wealthy. German designer Winfried Baumann instead focuses on finding cutting-edge and affordable design solutions for the homeless or ‘Urban Nomads’.
Under the brand Urban Nomads, Baumann creates various design concepts with an emphasis on mobility, housing, provisions, locomotion and affordability. The most comprehensive design is his Instant Housing project.
“Instant Housing are small mobile homes, which are designed for the special living circumstances of their users and which are manageable by one person,” explains the artist.
There are Instant Housing options for homeless people, nomadic priests, campers, business people, and travellers. The various mobile home options can be carried on your back, packed up like a suitcase, or wheeled behind you on a bicycle.
Baumann has also created other designs for his nomadic line including: Instant Cooking (nomadic mobile kitchen), Instant Help (medical help for homeless people), Instant Exhibition (mobile living and exhibition systems) and Instant Shelter (emergency aid).
