Back by popular demand, Salt Spring Island’s Eco-Living and Home Tour returns August 16, from 10 am to 4 pm. The self-guided tour has expanded to include a look at islanders’ ecological lifestyles along with various technologies that support alternative living.
Salt Spring Island, located off the western coast of Canada, has long been considered a haven for alternative living and eco innovations.
This year the Salt Spring Island’s Eco-Living and Home Tour includes examples of green building, energy efficiency, water conservation, food production, renewable energy, transportation alternatives, intentional community and ecological protection.
One of Canada’s most popular environmentalists, Briony Penn, will give guided tours of her 100 Mile handcrafted sustainable home and surrounding ecosystem. Local green technology guru, Andrew Haigh, will be demonstrating his off-the-grid, hemp bale house with greywater and blackwater pond systems.
Tickets are $20-$25 and on sale at Salt Spring Island Books.
