Swedish architect Anders Holmberg has created the 4 Passive Houses Project with a goal to create modern low energy houses that aren’t dark or dull looking. The result is elegant and energy efficient passive houses that use the energy generated by people and appliances to heat the homes.
“Passive Houses are well-insulated buildings that are largely heated by the energy already present in the building – people and our household equipment generate a lot of energy,” explains Holmberg. “The heat inside the building is utilized and the sun is also used to heat both the building and tap water whenever possible.”
Using a typical Swedish house design, but with a few eco-twists, Holmberg designed a house with 15% glass area and heat exchangers, constructed from sandwich blocks made of styrofoam and one layer of plywood on each side to create a super-insulated, low energy and easy to build home.
