International Nau Architects, created their self-sustaining Living Roof pod home that can add sustainable living space to existing reinforced building roofs. The Living Roof prefabricated pod is 28ft (8.5m) long that can be helicopter dropped onto an urban roof, offloaded on a trailer in a suburban garden, or even in the middle of a jungle. It can be used as a penthouse suite, a vacation mobile home, or any other myriad of eco-friendly applications.

The pod generates its own electrical power using surface mounted photovoltaic panels and battery storage, and its interior can be reconfigured from sleeping quarters, to lounge to office by rotating internal ring structures within the pod. Internal ventilation uses small vent ‘turbines’ that either extract air or generate power as the hot air escapes. The highly insulated shell ensures that very little energy is required for heating. Rainwater is captured, purified, and used for washing and drinking.
