Nigeria's Yelwa village is now home to the first upcycled plastic bottle home, constructed using bottles filled with sand and held together by mud. Hundreds of people are visiting the home to see the finalized construction of the house, being built along with twenty-five others on land donated by a Greek businessman and environmentalist.

Each single bedroom house has a living room, bathroom, toilet and kitchen, needing around 7,800 plastic bottles for the construction and costing around a third of the price of a concrete/ brick house. The plastic bottles were supplied via local hotels and restaurants. The thick walls, with high heat capacity due to the sand, help maintain a cool interior, and offers durable construction. The house itself is built on a concrete foundation.

Local children make money by filling the bottles, and may one day be attending a plastic bottle constructed school that will be built by the Development Association for Renewable Energies.
