Condé Nast, publisher of Vanity Fair Magazine’s annual Green Issue has quietly announced that it won’t be publishing their environmental version anymore.
The company previously published three Green Issues featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Julie Roberts and Madonna on the covers respectively.
The Independent Newspaper UK, reports that Condé Nast, publisher of Vanity Fair, argued that the environment has become so integral to the news agenda that there is no longer a need for a dedicated issue. “Vanity Fair remains committed to covering the environment, and we'll spread our coverage throughout the year, instead of relegating the bulk of it to a specific issue,” explained a spokesperson for the company. “With so much else going on relating to the global financial crisis, we have been focusing on that of late."
Some blame the economic downturn for the demise of Vanity Fair’s Green Issue, others suggest in may have been difficult to make money from the environmental themed annual issue.
Although the normalization of green issues and content may be better for the mainstream public, considering that the majority of Vanity Fair content is devoted to starlets, socialites and upper middle-class issues, it is fair to say that magazine's readers did benefit, and would continue to benefit, from exposure to environmental articles in Vanity Fair’s Green Issue.
