Lady Gaga’s Meat Bikini

A bikini made of meat is stirring up some controversy. The ‘meatkini’ worn by American musician and performance artist Lady Gaga for the current edition of Vogue Hommes Japan is drawing some ire from animal rights’ organizations.

Designed to shock, the images are also indicative of a disregard for both the suffering of animals caused by factory farmed meat, food wastage that is so prevalent in the developed world, and the high carbon footprint of beef. Americans, as some of the largest consumers of meat in the world, also practice some of the cruelest methods of factory farming.

“No matter how beautifully it is presented, flesh from a tortured animal is flesh from a tortured animal. Meat represents bloody violence and suffering, so if that’s the look they were going for—they achieved it,” explained PETA in a statement.
