Just in time for Halloween – People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) – is running a rather scary Halloween campaign. The target isn’t pumpkin farmers or costume-makers, but two fur-wearing celebrities - Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. Although probably better known for their days as child actors and then as adult clothing empire magnates – the twins are now the unwitting target of some negative press and attention from PETA.
The campaign entitled – Why Not Be A Troll This Halloween – parodies the twin actors as the Trollsons, Hairy-Kate and Trashley. PETA reports that they have been pleading with the twins for years to stop wearing fur to no avail. The final icing on the pumpkin cake was when the twins added fur to their clothing line. PETA’s website explains their campaign with, “After all, only someone as heartless as a troll
would wear the skins of dead animals”.
PETA is offering free Hairy-Kate and Trashley masks to individuals in Canada and the USA who want to dress up as ‘trolls’ for Halloween. Individuals in other parts of the world can download Halloween masks from the PETA website.
