More celebrities are lending their voices to help end the Canadian seal hunt by boycotting the country's seafood products. The need to protect seafood stocks is often cited as a rationale for the increasingly large quota of seals killed each year, yet humans remain the biggest threat to fishing stocks. The majority of seals are killed for their fur and Canada's commercial seal hunt is the largest slaughter of marine mammals on the planet.
The Protect the Seals Campaign, led by the Humane Society of the United States' celebrity spokesperson Nigel Barker, now has more star power with recent events attracting Khloe Kardashian, Carmen Electra, Brody Jenner and girlfriend Jayde Nicole.
An event at the Extreme Wow Suite at W New York attracted young celebs Erin Lucas from MTV’s The City and Gossip Girls’ Connor Paolo and Krysten Ritter who joined the boycott of Canadian seafood products.
Global opposition to the Canadian seal hunt continues to grow; the European Union recently banned trade and import of seal products.
