In a bid to raise awareness about his international water charity One Drop, and because he can afford it, the founder of Cirque du Soleil, Canadian billionaire Guy Laliberte, will be spending some time at the International Space Station. As the seventh fare paying private citizen in space, Laliberte plans to make a splash while at the International Space Station.

On October 9th, while in space, he will orchestrate a fourteen-hour global event that includes notables on five continents - Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore, Canadian environmentalist David Suzuki, astronaut Julie Payette, Peter Gabriel, and U2, among others.

Aside from planning the world’s first artistic space production, he hopes to raise awareness about the state of the world’s water and put his nonprofit One Drop on the international stage.

Currently, Guy Laliberte is in Star City, Russia preparing for the September 30, 2009 launch. It is estimated that he is paying about $35 million dollars for the chance to travel and live in space for a few days.
