Harry Potter star and Brown University student Emma Watson has recently announced a partnership with People Tree to launch a Fair Trade organic fashion line in 2010.
"I wanted to help People Tree produce a younger range because I was excited by the idea of using fashion as a tool to alleviate poverty and knew it was something I could help make a difference with,” explains Watson.
The collection uses 100% organic and Fair Trade certified cotton, created by Fair Trade groups using hand weaving, hand knitting and hand embroidery techniques to create livelihoods for disadvantaged people in India, Bangladesh and Nepal.
"I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices but there aren't many options out there,” explains Watson.
The clothing line will feature jersey t-shirts, dresses, woven skirts, trousers, shorts and knitwear for both men and women. The collection will also include bohemian hand embroidered bed throws, recycled paper jewelry, banana fiber slouchy beanies and headscarves.
