Brad Pitt Gets Eco-Award.

Hollywood movie star Brad Pitt received an eco-award from the US Green Building Council recognizing his green housing project in a Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans. The LEED Award for the “largest and greenest single family community in the world” was given to Pitt at the recent Clinton Global Initiative meeting in New York.

Pitt was at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting to give an update on his Make It Right Foundation green building project, working to build 150 sustainable homes in the Hurricane Katrina ravaged Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans.

“While Katrina gave us the opportunity to think creatively about how to make green homes affordable for the low-income families who need them the most, it shouldn’t take a hurricane to make that happen in other cities,” said Pitt. “Our plan is to take what we have learned in New Orleans and help other communities build healthy, safe and affordable green homes. Our hope is to make these homes the norm, not the exception.”

The Make It Right building project has LEED Platinum certified 13 homes and is building at least 150 sustainable, storm-resistant LEED Platinum homes.
