American newscaster Larry King, in conjunction with a wide range of musicians, celebrities and American personalities, managed to generate US$1.8 million (€1.47M) slated for charities helping with the oil spill. All funds raised during the CNN's "Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help” two hour telethon will be divided between the United Way, The National Wildlife Federation and The Nature Conservancy.

Sting, Deepak Chopra, Tim McGraw, Cameron Diaz, Robert Redford, Harry Connick Jr., Jenny McCarthy and Ted Danson are just a few of the individuals that helped out during the telethon by answering phones and taking pledges. Although the telethon was a success, the amount raised pales in comparison to the estimated US$58 million (€47.4M) raised during the Hope For Haiti telethon.

However, there are still lots of opportunities to make a donation through the online “Disaster in the Gulf” charity auction with prizes ranging from Larry King’s belt-suspenders to a night in the Trump Hotel or clothing items from Sex and The City 2.
