Tesla Growth Spurt

E-mail Print

With a recent cash injection from Germany's Daimler and despite the troubled economy, luxury electric carmaker Tesla continues to ride, or drive, on a wave of good fortune. Telsa just delivered its 500th Roadster to Martin Tuchman in the USA, and will soon start delivering Roadsters in Europe.

The hip EV company is also opening a slew of new stores with recent storefronts debuting in London, England, New York, Seattle, Chicago and Miami. Tesla is currently scouting new store locations in Washington and Toronto, Monaco and Munich. The innovative company takes its showroom cues from Apple, Starbucks and other customer-focused retailers. Tesla stores are designed to provide a welcoming spot to surf the Web, test drive cars, and charge your Tesla.

“We are rethinking almost every aspect of the automobile – from the powertrain to the customer experience, both online and in our stores,” said Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Any boost in electric vehicles is a fantastic thing. I look forward to something in my price range (very low)

Am I the only one a little grossed out by how upscale Tesla is? Electric cars are safe, reliable, clean, efficient, and innovative. If you don't believe me check out the book Two Cents Per Mile by Nevres Cefo. But electric cars are never going to make a difference if they cost that much, and their showrooms are that upscale.

I am also a bit grossed out - seems like so many of the green innovations are for the wealthy - like the Tesla.
