World’s Most Efficient Electric Car?

E-mail Print

The T.27 prototype.

Does it take a Formula 1 designer to create an efficient electric car? Apparently it does. According to Professor Gordon Murray, designer of the renowned supercar the McLaren F1, the arrival of the world’s most energy efficient electric car is imminent.

With the recent infusion of a £4.5m UK government investment, Gordon Murray Designs, in conjunction with Zytek Automotive, are promising four electric car prototypes by February 2011.

Using what they deem an ‘entirely fresh approach to car design’, the racing car design team are creating the T.27  - the world’s most efficient electric car with 63% less life-cycle emissions than the average fuel-burning car and 27% less than any electric vehicle rival. The T.27 city car will be slightly smaller than a Smart car, but with three wheels and more interior space, with an integrated motor, gearbox and power source.
