Über luxury carmaker Rolls Royce is considering creating an electric rendition of the Phantom in time for the 2012 London Olympics. The electric Phantom would have a near-silent electric propulsion, lithium ion cell batteries, with full torque available from a standstill, according to the AutoCar UK website.
Large luxury vehicles, electric or otherwise, still require an inordinate amount of resources to produce and operate. However, it would be encouraging to see Rolls Royce offering electric vehicle options. Rolls Royce may plan on a specialized lease arrangement for their electric Phantom, similar to that now being used by the electric Mini E.
