In a bid to raise the profile of environmentally friendly vehicles on roads and highways and encourage Canadians to purchase hybrids and electric vehicles, the Ontario government is introducing a green-colored license plate for both plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery-powered electric cars.
Aside from showing your concern for the environment, additional benefits of having the special green plate will include the ability to use carpool lanes (even if there is only one person in the car), access o government owned GO Transit recharging stations and parking lots. Special parking privileges will also be available at various private companies and businesses including Wal-Mart and the University of Toronto.
The green license plates will be available in Ontario in 2010.
