
Although we are not sure if cars have a lot to smile about when you think about the greenhouses gases created from their combustion engines, but the Hara Design Institute Nippon Design Center has created a polyurethane elastomer fiber skin that could allow car drivers to give their cars facial expressions.
The super stretchy polyurethane elastomer is proposed for a whole range of products, but the smiley face seems an option for vehicles. Let’s hopes the repertoire of facial expressions includes shrugs of shame for those Hummers and big toothy grins for sweet solar and electric cars.
