The Renault DeZir Sportscar.

Renault's all-electric DeZir two-seater coupé will be revealed at the 2010 Paris Motor Show and lives up to its 'simple', 'sensuous' and 'warm' design requirements. The stunning red paint and curvaceous body gives more than a little ‘oh-la-la sexy‘ French design flare and promises a willingness to perform.

A 24 kilowatt-hour lithium ion battery pack (the same energy storage unit that powers the Nissan Leaf), provides 100 miles (162km) driving range, with a quick drop-out mechanism to exchange a fresh battery if you are really in a rush. Recharging from a household socket takes 8 hours, or fast charge using a 400V supply gives 80% capacity in only 20 minutes.

Power comes from a 150hp (110 kilowatt) electric motor providing 167ft.lb of torque (226Nm) to drive the rear wheels, giving the DeZir a 0-60mph (0-96kph) acceleration of under 5 seconds with a top speed of 125mph (200kph).

The DeZir performance is helped by the smooth aerodynamic shape (0.25 drag coefficient, underbody fairing and rear diffuser) and a low 1,830lb (830kg) weight, with a Kevlar and aluminum body riding on a steel tube frame chassis with double wishbone suspension, all sitting on top of 21-inch wheels.

Two rear-facing cameras replace the rear window and DeZir's hood sports a full-width air-intake with a striking Renault front-end design esthetic that says it means business. The contra-opening gull doors are a novel design and the interior concept design continues the sexy, nail-varnish red motif carry over from the exterior.
