Kansas City DeLaSalle School students have built an ultra-efficient electric car that gets 307mpge (130.5kms per liter) as part of their Automobile Design Studio course. The students recently tested their vehicle at Bridgestone's Texas Proving Ground 7.7 mile (14.2km) and achieved their impressively low equivalent fuel consumption values.

Using a 2000 Lola Indy Car chassis and with assistance from instructor Steve Rees, the students developed the electric drivetrain, a clear aerodynamic shell to reduce air drag and used low rolling resistance Bridgestone Ecopia EP100 tires to reduce rolling friction.
The team has asked the Guinness Book of Records to check if they qualify for a world record for lowest equivalent fuel consumption.
