The Edison2 eVLC (electric Very Light Car) is an incredible electric car that gets 245mpge (miles per gallon equivalent) according to recent EPA testing at Roush Laboratories.

The Edison2 eVLC is an all-electric version of the Automotive X-Prize-winning Edison2 prototype. The Edison2 eVLC is a sleek (1,031lbs or 468kg) four-passenger vehicle that can travel 114 miles (184kms) on the charge from a 10.5kWh battery. Recharging takes six hours form a 110-volt/20amp outlet.

Compared to the more conventional looking Nissan Leaf (99mpge), the Edison2 eVLC gets 10% more range on a battery only 40% the size, so low weight and cool aerodynamics (with a low drag coefficient of only 0.16) are the key to motoring efficiency. In fact, it is so efficient that only 5.3hp is needed to maintain a cruising speed of 60mph (96km/h).
Once the Edison2 eLVC passes safety crash testing next year, you could see them silently and efficiently taking their owners on ultra low emission drives through town.

Still always interesting to see what can happen in an experiment.
