The sexiest electric car on the planet is now available in Canada. Tesla Motors Inc. recently announced that it will start selling cars in Canada and begin delivering their EVs to lucky Canadian customers starting in the fourth quarter.
Currently, Tesla is the only production automaker selling highway-capable electric vehicles (EVs) in North America and Europe. The Tesla Roadster competes with any sports car in its class for acceleration and is twice as energy efficient as a Toyota Prius.
Canadians, in many parts of the country, are able to access a portion of their electricity from renewable sources, making an electric car a good option for low-emission personal transportation.
An EV recharged from the current Canadian grid, on average, would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 85% compared to an equivalent gasoline-powered vehicle. In hydro-dominant British Columbia, Quebec and Manitoba, the reduction would be an impressive 98%, explains Tesla.
Initially, Tesla will deliver cars to Canadian customers through regional centers in Seattle and New York. The EV company hopes to eventually open sales facilities in Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec.
In the United States, the base price for a Tesla Roadster is US$109,000.
