The province of New Brunswick in eastern Canada is about to get its first government funded wind farm. The Canadian government recently announced that New Brunswickers will soon have the opportunity to reduce their energy costs while using cleaner, renewable power thanks to a $29 million government investment.

The 96 megawatt (MW) Kent Hills Wind Farm is located 30 kilometres from Moncton, in Albert County and will provide approximately 290,000 MW hours of electricity per year from its 32 turbines. This electricity will then be sold to New Brunswick Power and is estimated to meet the needs of 17,000 homes.

“By investing in New Brunswick’s first commercial wind farm, our government is delivering power to Canadians at a competitive price while promoting clean and renewable energy,” announced Rob Moore, MP for Fundy Royal, on behalf of the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Natural Resources. “Not only will this wind farm help protect our environment, but this green-energy technology will help stimulate the economy and create jobs for Canadians.”
