Frosted Bulb Eurocondom

E-mail Print

With an increase in awareness of environmental issues, there is an increase in legislation. However, not everyone always agrees on all the so-called green rulings. Take the proposed European Union guidelines for frosted incandescent bulbs coming into affect on September 2009.

Frosted incandescent bulbs are scheduled to be banned as they give off less light than clear bulbs. The difference in light output, according to German artist Thomas Happel, measured in lumens, is negligible or practically zero.

To protest against what he called ‘stupid rules’, Happel has created the Eurocondom. The Eurocondom consists of a thin, heat-resistant silicone cover that turns a clear bulb into a frosted one.

“It is not clear whether it will become a regular product or if it will stay as a special project against stupid EU rules...,” explains the artist.
